Mr. Matthies leads the research activities of SurgicEye, from a close collaboration with international academic and clinical partners towards the integration in medical products. He is involved in the hardware and software development of new imaging and image processing prototypes and initiates and supervises clinical trials.

His involvement with SurgicEye started early with his diploma thesis and since then he has been supporting the company as a working student and subsequently as an external consultant.

Mr. Matthies received the diploma in physics with distinction and continued to work as a research assistant in computer science at Technische Universität München (TUM), one of the leading universities in Europe. He is currently finalizing his Ph.D. thesis on interventional nuclear imaging in Computer Science at the Chair for Computer Aided Medical Procedures (TUM). He has been a Visiting Research Collaborator at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, USA. In addition he received an honorable mention for the Young Scientist Award at MICCAI conference in 2013 and received scholarships for his PhD as well as for several international conferences. He (co-)authored over 20 international papers and two patent applications.
