At the university hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar installed a reference center for navigated radio-guided surgery on the basis of SurgicEye's Confident Surgery Suite 300. The system is used for navigated resection of sentinel lymph nodes in breast cancer and melanoma.
In the past decade radio-guided sentinel lymph node extraction is established as standard procedure in breast and melanoma surgery and is implemented in many national treatment guidelines. The surgery department at Klinikum rechts der Isar uses the novel three dimensional imaging and navigation technique for guided resection. "The usage of this technology is a quality improvement for the extraction of malign tissue. Starting from navigated extraction of sentinel lymph nodes in melanoma patients, the 3D technology opens new techniques for many tumor surgery application for safe and minimally invasive patient treatment", Dr. Marc Martignoni from the surgery department, Klinikum rechts der Isar, Munich, Germany. The technology of the 3D imaging and navigation technology is developed by SurgicEye, a spin-off from TUM, Munich.
