Confident Surgery Suite is a platform technology to support intra-operative soft tissue navigation enabled through 3D SPECT imaging with flexible, handheld instruments. The system’s first application is the sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) in the axilla and groin. Already well-established in breast cancer surgery and melanoma, the concept of SLNB is also being introduced in various other cancers. However, state-of-the-art technology like gamma probes and intra-operative gamma cameras are limited in their possibilities: they neither provide a full 3D image of the radioactive distribution nor do they integrate information in a navigation solution in order to guide the extraction of designated lymph nodes. The freehand SPECT imaging solution and its incorporation in a navigation suite enable the support to guide through complex tasks without extensive training. Furthermore, freehand SPECT enables a direct confirmation of the complete extraction of the marked nodes and semi-automatic documentation already during surgery.
The modular design of SurgicEye’s system and software platform facilitates workflow integrated representation, image acquisition and documentation for many other surgical procedures. Safer surgical interventions will be enabled by the availability of 3D data and fusion of data. In addition, the system offers several advantages: • Access to existing hospital and radiology management systems (PACS and RIS/HIS), Additionally, the aforementioned highlights also facilitate a transparent and automatic procedure for documentation and customized reports. |
